We are grateful to share a joyful update from the heart of our Diocese. On Monday, February 2, 2026, the Church in Ikot Ekpene gathered at St. Anne Cathedral to celebrate the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord, which is also observed globally as the World Day for Consecrated Persons. This special day served as a profound moment to honor the men and women religious who have dedicated their lives to Christ and the service of His people.
A Call to Selfless Service
The celebration began with the Holy Mass, presided over by Most Rev. Camillus R. Umoh, the Catholic Bishop of Ikot Ekpene Diocese. In his homily, Bishop Umoh expressed deep gratitude for the diverse apostolates carried out by the religious throughout the Diocese. He highlighted their vital work in teaching, caring for the sick and elderly, and providing a haven for orphans and the less privileged.
Addressing the consecrated men and women directly, the Bishop charged them to continue their selfless service to God, regardless of the challenges they may encounter. He offered a message of hope, affirming that Jesus, our Master and Savior, will continue to grant them the strength and blessings needed for their mission. A highlight of the liturgy was the Renewal of Vows, as the religious publicly recommitted themselves to their sacred calling.
A Vibrant Community of Mission
The event was a beautiful display of the Church’s diversity and resilience. Members from numerous religious congregations were in attendance, including:
- Handmaids of the Holy Child Jesus
- Missionary Society of St. Paul
- Society of St. Paul
- Daughters of Charity
- Sisters of the Holy Family of the Needy
- Daughters of St. Joseph
- Congregation of the Missions
- Sons of the Two Hearts of Love
- Society of Jesus the Saviour
- Daughters of Divine Love
The clergy were joined by the laity and the good people of the Diocese, who gathered to show their support and participate in the various presentations held during the celebration.
The Impact of Your Support
This gathering was not only a spiritual milestone but also a testament to the great support of our donors. The various apostolates celebrated—from schools to hospitals and social centers—are made possible through the prayers and generosity of our partners in the United States and beyond. Your commitment ensures that these religious men and women have the resources necessary to continue being instruments of God’s mercy.
To God be the glory for the gift of consecrated life and for the continued growth of the mission in the Diocese of Ikot Ekpene.
