Hope and Steadfastness: The 2026 Cathedraticum in Nto Edino Deanery

On Sunday, May 17, 2026, the faithful of the Nto Edino Deanery one of the seven deaneries within our Diocese—gathered at St. Andrew Parish to welcome our Chief Shepherd, Most Rev. Camillus R. Umoh, for the annual Cathedraticum. This significant event brought together parishioners from across the deanery for a day of prayer, unity, and communal support for the local Church.

A Message of Hope Amidst Challenge

The celebration began with the Holy Eucharistic celebration, presided over by Bishop Umoh. In a moving homily, the Bishop expressed his profound gratitude to the priests, religious, and lay faithful for their continued presence and dedication to the Church.

Acknowledging the current economic challenges and sufferings many are facing, the Bishop drew inspiration from the writings of St. Peter, encouraging the community to remain steadfast and hopeful. He emphasized that our strength is found in our togetherness and our shared life of prayer. Furthermore, he offered a special charge to the priests, particularly those serving in suburban regions, urging them to remain zealous in their apostolates despite the difficulties of their mission.

A Joyful Reception and Milestone

The Dean of Nto Edino, Very Rev. Fr. Cyril Udoudo, offered warm remarks, thanking the Bishop for his visit and noting that his presence provided much-needed strength and a visible sign of love for the people in their difficult conditions.

The gathering was also a time of personal celebration, as the faithful shared their joy and gratitude for the Bishop, who will mark his 70th birthday this coming July. The spirit of the event was one of mutual support, as the Bishop thanked the people for their generosity and prayed for God’s continued blessings upon their families.
