Rooted in Christ, Radiant in the World: NFCS Celebrates 70 Years of Faith and Excellence

From April 16 to 19, 2026, the Nigerian Federation of Catholic Students (NFCS) of the Ikot Ekpene Diocese gathered in a vibrant spirit of faith and unity to celebrate its 70th Anniversary and Diocesan Convention. Held at Holy Family College, Oku Abak, under the inspiring theme “Rooted in Christ, Radiant in the World,” the event brought together students from across the Diocese’s higher institutions, including St. Joseph Major Seminary, Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic, Akwa Ibom State University, and several colleges of nursing and health sciences.

A Fatherly Call to Standards and Choices

The convention was honored by the presence of our Chief Shepherd, Most Rev. Camillus R. Umoh. In his remarks, the Bishop spoke to the students with fatherly affection, reminding them that they are “products of the choices they make” and that their beliefs are what organize their lives.

He offered a powerful reminder of the Church’s identity, stating that the Catholic Church is a “full package” with standards that must remain untampered. Bishop Umoh encouraged the youth to make the most of their time and assured them that the Church is dedicated to providing a conducive atmosphere for their continued growth [User Input]. He also extended heartfelt gratitude to parents, sponsors, and guardians for their unwavering support of these young ambassadors of the faith.

Intellectual and Spiritual Formation

The four-day gathering was a spiritually enriching and intellectually engaging experience. In addition to the Holy Masses and communal activities, the students participated in seminars designed to provide practical guidance for navigating the modern world:

  • “Conscience: Hearing God’s Voice in a Noisy Generation” by Mrs. Victoria C. Udom.
  • “Drug/Substance Abuse” by Sr. Fidelia Zabbey, DC.

These sessions provided the participants with the tools to strengthen their leadership and personal growth, ensuring they remain steadfast and proactive in promoting the ideals of the NFCS and the teachings of the Church.

Celebrating Excellence and Gratitude

The convention concluded on a joyful note with an award of recognition given to the Bishop Camillus Etokudoh College of Health Sciences and Technology for their outstanding performance during the zonal convention.

We are indebteably grateful to our Zonal Chaplain, Rev. Fr. Andrew S. Ohakwe, the host principal, Rev. Fr. Columbus Archibong, and the many organizers and guests who made this 70th-anniversary celebration a success. This milestone highlights that the Diocese remains a vibrant place of prayer, formation, and service for the next generation.
