The Completion of the Retreat and Youth Development Centre

We are pleased to share an important milestone in the mission work of the Diocese of Ikot Ekpene: the Retreat and Youth Development Centre was completed in September 2025. Though some minor work remains, the Retreat Center is now fully functional and open for use!

This long-term project, made possible through the generosity of donors to the IK Catholic Missions USA, now stands as a permanent resource for spiritual formation, pastoral gatherings, and youth development within the Diocese. From the beginning, the vision for this Centre was to create a place where clergy, religious, and lay faithful could gather for prayer, discernment, formation, and renewal.

Shortly after its completion, the Retreat and Youth Development Centre was chosen to host its first major large-scale event: the gathering of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria, held from September 11–19, 2025. This historic event marked the first official use of the Centre for a national ecclesial gathering and demonstrated its readiness to serve the wider Church.

During the conference, bishops from across Nigeria gathered for prayer, meetings, and deliberations in the newly completed facilities. The successful hosting of this event affirmed the importance of the Centre not only for the Diocese of Ikot Ekpene, but also for the broader mission of the Church in Nigeria.

The images accompanying this update show moments from the conference and the completed facilities. They reflect the fruit of years of planning, sacrifice, and generous support from benefactors who believed in the long-term mission of the Church.

We are deeply grateful to all who contributed to this project through prayer and financial support. Your generosity has helped build a place that will serve generations to come, fostering spiritual growth, leadership formation, and unity within the Church.

Future updates will share how the Retreat and Youth Development Centre continues to be used for retreats, youth programs, and diocesan activities. We thank you for walking with us in this mission and for making this achievement possible.
