On April 1, 2026, the Diocese of Ikot Ekpene gathered in grand style for the celebration of the Chrism Mass, a solemn and grace-filled liturgy that serves as a profound sign of unity within our local Church. Presided over by our Chief Shepherd, Most Rev. Camillus R. Umoh, the Mass brought together the clergy, religious, and lay faithful to witness the blessing of the sacred oils that will be used for the sacraments in the coming year.
A Tribute to the Priesthood and Vocations
In his homily, Bishop Umoh expressed heartfelt gratitude to God for the gift of the priesthood and vocations, which are vital to the life of the Diocese. He specifically thanked the priests for their steadfast dedication to duty and love, while reminding them of the sacred responsibilities they hold toward the people of God. The Bishop also acknowledged the lay faithful, thanking them for their constant support and prayers which sustain our priests in their daily ministry.
The Voice of Future Formation
The liturgy was further enriched by the beautiful music provided by the seminarians of St. Joseph Major Seminary. Their presence and participation in the choir served as a living reminder of the Church’s ongoing commitment to seminary formation and the bright future of the priesthood in Ikot Ekpene. This collaboration highlights the Diocese as a true place of prayer, formation, and service.
The Sacred Consecration of Oils
A central and solemn moment of the Mass was the Consecration of the Holy Chrism and the blessing of the oils of Catechumens and the Sick. These holy oils will now be distributed to parishes throughout the Diocese, bringing the grace of the sacraments to those being baptized, confirmed, or seeking healing. This event marks a milestone in our liturgical year, showing that the mission of Christ continues to flourish through these sacred instruments.
Strength Through Partnership
We are grateful to share this update with our partners and benefactors in the United States. The spiritual vitality displayed during the Chrism Mass is made possible through the shared mission of the Diocese of Ikot Ekpene Office for the Missions USA, which links the generosity of the faithful with the urgent needs of the Church in Nigeria. Your prayers and support ensure that our priests and seminarians can continue their essential work of service.
